Theme: Encounters in Prayer and Love
This spring, our Bible lessons follow the theme “Encounters in Prayer and Love.” Because Lent falls during this quarter, the first unit has five lessons and ends with Easter Sunday. The second unit has eight lessons. The teacher book writer is Stan Purdum
Unit 1
Jesus Prays
The five lessons in this unit continue the Lenten focus begun in the last two lessons of the winter quarter. They take us inside the story of Jesus as he moves toward the cross, particularly looking at Jesus’ prayers during 0his time, including his prayer for his disciples, his prayer for the church, and his anguished prayer in the garden. They encourage us to sit in Jesus’ presence as he prays these poignant prayers and then call us to celebrate because of the hope Jesus’ resurrection brings.

Unit 2
Empowering Spirit
With the hope of resurrection fresh in our hearts, the eight lessons in this unit flow naturally into a vision for peace, reconciliation, and healing in our fractured and polarized world. The overall emphasis is on the relational dimensions of mission, especially as Jesus and the early church encounter the stranger, the marginalized, and the other. The biblical texts offer us an opportunity to reflect on the complexities and the wonder of engagement with others as we are moved and empowered by the Spirit, to announce the good news, to bear the burden of historic wrongs, to come alongside and to listen, and much more.
